Kickboxing is a dynamic and intense martial art and sport that combines elements of traditional boxing with kicks from various martial arts like Muay Thai or Taekwondo. It focuses on both striking and footwork, offering a comprehensive workout and self-defense skills making it an ideal form of self defense. The roots of modern kickboxing can be traced back to the early 1920s when Japanese martial artist Tatsuo Yamada began to integrate Western boxing with traditional Japanese striking arts, creating a hybrid sport. Kickboxing as we know it today began to take shape in the 1950s in Thailand with the introduction of American soldiers returning from the Korean War. They brought back an interest in Muay Thai, which led to the development of a new hybrid sport. The term "kickboxing" was popularized in the 1970s in the United States, thanks in large part to the efforts of promoters like Mike Anderson and the influence of martial artists such as Bruce Lee. Bruce Lee’s advocacy for combining different martial arts helped to popularize the concept of kickboxing. Over the years, kickboxing has grown in popularity and evolved into many different styles. Whether you’re looking for a fun fitness regime for your child or interested in competitive fighting or want your kids to be able to defend themselves, kickboxing can be a great choice. If you want a safe environment for your kids to learn kickboxing, come and check out the kick boxing classes at Lil’ Ninjas Dojo.
